You may have landed on this article because you wanted to know how to use a “tumbler” if so, check your spelling before you hit go when surfing the net! Having said that, it might be worth you reading on as Tumblr is an innovative new program that has hit the internet, and is on the up when it comes to people getting their names out into cyberspace. If you know what SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is, read on.

How to use Tumblr

This is how you use Tumblr:

Tumblr is free to sign up with and the first thing you’ll need to do is open an account with them. This means that you will need a username, oh, and you’ll need your own blog as well; if you don’t know what a blog is then this article is not for you (sorry). So, when choosing a username, you will need to include part of the URL for your blog along with it. For example, it will read http://username.tumblr.com don’t use “username”, this is just an example to show you how it will look.

There are 7 different types of posts that you can use once you’re signed up and you may want to give all of them a try once you have your account set up, here is what they are:

  • You can add text, this means that you can use hyperlinks, plain text, videos and some widgets that are HTML based; raw HTML can be edited at any time. Again, if you don’t know what I’m on about then maybe you should do some more research before trying this program.

  • Photographs are a fun aspect of the internet and if you have a photo you would like to share with everyone, you can load them up on Tumblr, this can be done by loading an image you have on your PC or one that you have from your own website, blog or something you have found on the internet.

  • If you happen to have a talent for quoting, you can use Tumblr to do this, it doesn’t have to be your own quote, you can load something that you have found on the internet and it is so profound that you just HAVE to share it with everyone. You will need a title and a single line of text.

  • Links; for anyone who has read this far because they know all about SEO, this is the part of the Tumblr program that will interest you. You can add some text that will link back to your website or blog.

  • Audio and video are the last 2 options you have on Tumblr and they’re very easy to upload.

Much like Twitter and Facebook, once you’ve become established with Tumblr you will start to get followers; this is where SEO kicks in.

Personally, I find this program great! It’s new to the internet and therefore fresh don’t worry about traffic, there are thousands of people already using this program.
