The Three Largest Telecom Equipment Manufactures

With today’s demand of telecommunications, phone accessories as Circa charge and  three companies have managed to establish themselves as giants in providing the hardware required for the smooth operations of the mobile networks. This field has seen its share of mergers, bankruptcy and buyouts, probably more than any other major sector in today’s economic environment. But on the other hand it is surprisingly stable sector, provided you can either provide extraordinary products to justify the price, or manage to provide products at a good price.

Ericsson

The largest mobile telecom equipment manufacturer in the world, Ericsson has managed to hold on to its share of 35% of the global market since the early 1990’s. They were at one point of time the largest manufacture of manual telephone exchanges. Considered to be one of Sweden’s largest companies, Ericsson was established in 1876 by Lars Magnus Ericsson, as a telegraph repair company and has grown from then to be the front runner in supply of mobile telecom equipment. They offer a range of products, which include radio base stations, base station and radio network controllers, mobile switching centres and service application nodes. Huawei

Relatively the newest kid on the block, Huawei, is the second largest manufacture of mobile telecom equipment in the world. Founded in 1987, it has grown to work with close to 80% of top 50 telecom companies in the world. Huawei’s revenue in 2010, accounted for 15.76% of the $78.56 billion global telecom infrastructure, slightly behind Ericsson’s share of 19.6%. In the year of 2008, Huawei was ranked first in the mobile softswitch market, the IP DSLAM market, and tied with Ericsson for lead in mobile broadband cards by revenue. It ranked second in the optical hardware market, and third in the mobile network equipment market.

Nokia Siemens

Created in 2007, as a merger between Siemens Communications division and Nokia’s Network Business Group, it bought together two of the largest companies in Europe supplying mobile telecom equipment. Said to serve close to a quarter of the world’s population every day, through their infrastructure products, its customer base is said to include 1400 customers in over 150 countries. With it acquiring Apertio in UK, Nokia Siemens gained Orange, T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone and Hutchison 3G as their subscriber management customer.
